Clairemont Mesa is notable as one of the first
post-World War II suburban developments built in San Diego during the
1950s and 1960s. The area lies south of SR-52, west of I-805 and
east of I-5. Clairemont is defined by two major canyons – Tecolote
Canyon, which cuts through its center and San Clemente Canyon, which
borders its northern edge. Houses are built on the mesas of these canyons,
which also are home to wildlife and provide recreation for hikers.
Many Clairemont neighborhoods feature views of Mission Bay and the
ocean, while others have canyon views. Several commercial areas along
Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, Balboa Avenue and Morena Boulevard provide
shopping and services for area residents.
